After Contacting Mike (making the right choice)
“I have a phone meeting with the client/event planner and go over the fundamentals necessary to make the presentation successful. Things like sound, lighting, introductions, and the best time for the performance to take place in the day’s schedule. Each event is unique, and so each demands its own underlying groundwork. I try to make the client comfortable with me, while I research what makes their group tick.â€
The Presentation Site
“I touch base with the venue’s contact, just to make sure their people know I’m part of the evening and to check out technical requirements. Many clients don’t anticipate bad sound in a room, or poor sight lines, or Murphy’s Law, I do. Any potential problems are dealt with in a Pre-Production phone call, and for the most part, the site appreciates just being kept in the loop.â€
Show Day
“I arrive early and go into the space and do a technical check before anyone ’s arrived. I set the sound and check the lighting. I talk to the client liaison and the sites Food and Beverage manager. We’ll work out any last minute details before the last minute. I’m a big believer that tweaking should not be done 10 minutes before presentation.â€
Mike’s Guidelines
Showtime preparation begins right away. It’s important to meet and get to know the client, venue and audience.
